Dr. Moffat and Mrs. Doreen Zimba, the founders of Northrise University, were both born in Zambia and suffered from a lack of meaningful educational opportunities. In 1988, amid their academic pursuits abroad, God planted a vision in the Zimbas that they would be instrumental in God’s work of bringing transformation to Zambia. In 2004, Northrise University opened in a small building in Ndola with 50 students in two-degree programs – Information Technology and Theology. Quickly outgrowing the building, the Zimbas requested 30 acres from the Zambian government to build a permanent campus. In God’s will, the government granted Northrise University 640 acres. Twenty years later, Northrise offers 12 degree programs, including Law, Nursing, IT, Business, Finance, and Engineering (coming in 2025) with an enrollment of 1000 students. There is a demand for high-quality, Christ-centered higher education in Zambia. The Christian Vision Grant will provide academic scholarships to deserving students.
Northrise University develops minds, hearts, and souls. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Northrise University. With 800 graduates and growing, the vision has become a reality. Stronger together, in union with Christ, NU students and alums are changing Zambia and beyond, one heart at a time.
