Endowed Scholarships
Canyon Institute manages 90 donor-restricted scholarship endowment funds (the “GCU Endowed Scholarships”). Each Endowed Scholarship is a cherished legacy of the commitment and sacrifices made by donors for the benefit of students attending Grand Canyon University. The Endowed Scholarships are administered in partnership with Grand Canyon University. Canyon Institute develops and implements investment and spending policies while Grand Canyon University identifies and selects students who meet the criteria established by the original donors.
Many GCU Endowed Scholarships honor the faculty and administrators who helped establish and sustain Grand Canyon University through its first 50 years. These endowments were funded by the sacrificial giving of family and friends. Honorees include GCU’s first president, Willis J. Ray, as well as inaugural professors Roland and Betty Beck, Clarice Maben, and J. Niles Puckett. Also honored among the Endowed Scholarships are former GCU presidents Glenn Eason and William R. Hintze, former administrators, James Carroll and Carl Paetz, as well as former professors such as Woodrow Berryhill, John Howerton, Rob Jones, Harry Kent, D. C. Martin, Dan Maxon, Paul & Esther McCarty, and Grace Weller.
This year Canyon Institute and Grand Canyon University awarded over $175,000 in Endowed Scholarships.
Since 2004, Canyon Institute has awarded over $2.5 million in Endowed Scholarships.
