Each year Canyon Institute carries out its mission culminating in an annual awards banquet which this year was held April 20, 2012. Canyon Institute was able to honor 14 outstanding organizations with grants to continue carrying out God’s will through works of Christian Education, Evangelism, and Charity. The Board and staff of Canyon Institute are full of joy in establishing new partnerships with fine Christian organizations from around the world. The excitement we feel for the coming year and thrill of participating in carrying out Kingdom work through helping those less fortunate than ourselves through the grant process is nearly overwhelming.
But mixed in with this joy is also the solemn task each year at this time of saying thanks and goodbye to dear friends and fellow trustees as their terms expire. The year 2012 is no different as we say thanks to Bonnie A. Muir, Ray Olson and a special thanks to Carrie Mayfield the immediate past Chairperson, President and CEO. I know I speak for all the returning Board when I say thank you for the service, the sacrifices, and the commitment and for loving the Lord while investing in our mission. To say we could not be what we are today without these individuals is an understatement. Our organization has been blessed to have Carrie’s leadership and participation throughout the years. The Board wishes Bonnie, Ray and Carrie happiness, success and blessings in whatever they do from here.
In July each year the Board of Trustees nominates potential Christian organizations for grant consideration. Following the nomination process is significant vetting and underwriting. The 2012 list of recipients was an impressive group of faith based organizations who provide food, shelter, pastoral training, education, Bible study material, AIDS awareness training among many other contributions. In addition each year Canyon Institute, with the help of Grand Canyon University Scholarship Foundation, a nonprofit organization, offers scholarships to worthy Grand Canyon students funded by the Canyon Institute’s Endowment Fund. Canyon Institute will never forget its roots in the sacrifices, commitments, and passions of all those who attended, worked for or contributed to the original Grand Canyon University. Canyon Institute is committed to developing future Christian leaders by providing scholarships.
As Canyon Institute embarks on 2012-2013 year the Trustees will continue to seek out worthy Christ-led organizations who meet the mission preferences of Christian education, evangelism and charity. Canyon Institute will continue to be discerning in its stewardship of resources used to generate funding of grant programs.
